The Metaphor of a Raft Flowing On a River

“The Metaphor of a Raft Flowing On a River” will help give us an understanding of Dhyana.

Envision yourself floating down a river on a raft. As long as you don’t get stuck on any rocks, or reach out and grab onto any vines or branches that may be hanging out over the river, you will flow on that raft on the river, effortlessly and continuously without interruption. In this metaphor, your attention or awareness is you on the raft, the river is your pure consciousness, and the rocks, vines and branches are thoughts, sensory input, or distractions of any kind.
